The Collar Trend 2012
Every few years, there's a body part that takes centre stage. Whether it's the power shoulders Balmain brought back a few years ago or the revealing plunging neck lines of the early 2000s, body parts seem to take turns in the spotlight.
For the past few seasons, fashion have slowly moved its attention on the neck. Last summer, peter pan collars were big and Balenciaga's punk collection featured metal collar tips. Since then, the trend has continued on with designers offering their spin on it. The great thing about collars is, it makes everyone look put together and with funky textures and colours, they're also wearable outside the office. Add an embellished collar necklace to your all-black ensemble to add sass to monochrome separates.
The detachable collar has been a quirky accessory of choice for bloggers and stylists in the past but they’re not just for the haute couture fashion peacocks anymore. A few designers have come out with some rather chic, easy access collars that instantly lift a plain shirt without adding too much bulk. Kind of like a necklace, only with a bit more personality.
Think of it as a great conversation starter. When chosen—and worn!—correctly, detachable collars can really amp up the fashion power of a simple outfit.
