Statement Coats AW 12

Statement Coats AW12

If you're looking for that statement coat this AW, then the choice is all yours, from supple leather and tactile shearling, biker and simple and puffer sports shape of cut.  Autumn is creeping up, and it’s important that we focus on the basics before we start implementing key trends for the season. At the same time the most relevant thing for long jackets is double-breasted and fitted silhouette.

Simple forms are opposed by complex cut: coat jackets and layering effects are in fashion in autumn 2012. Often, short jacket is put on a long coat.Among the major trends of men’s jackets in autumn 2012 we can clearly mark out sporty style with riders’ and bikers’ jackets, and the military style, which can be expressed in color and details and can copy the actual retro - military fashion of the 40s.

The military trend is a trend that always seems to re-introduce itself when the autumn/winter season hits, and the pea coat is a great example of this. Typically worn by European and British Naval Officers back in the 18th century, the pea coat is a timeless classic., We are of course, talking about the Pea Coat. It’s main features are large labels, a thick wool fabric and double breasted buttons. In the coming months we’re going to be highlighting other timeless essentials such as the trench, but the pea coat really is the perfect autumn/winter addition. Men's jackets of autumn/winter 2012-2013 are often made of combinations of materials such as leather and fabric.

Some designers have experimented with finishing from leather, using different processing that gives it a light sheen trendy colours of men's fashion of the season are shades of green, red and grey. It’s always fashionable to be in black, using different texture of materials. Black became one of the most popular for men's jackets of autumn 2012. Simple yet elegant, it is an effortlessly stylish piece that nods to the season’s military-inspired designs.

The oversized, bold collar adds a statement and focal point, as do the detailed epaulettes, but is still in keeping with the overall minimalistic design. The khaki colour will effortlessly stand out, in a non-garish way, compared to the majority of winter coats, while the gold buttons only help reinforce the strong military aesthetic. It may be less ostentatious and headline grabbing than the bold coloured outerwear, but the coat’s true beauty lies in the exquisite cut and military heritage feel.

Winter Warmers...

Winter Warmers 2012/13

Time to warm up this winter an look stylish, and the easiest and simpliest way is knitwear. Welcome the transitional time! One minute it’s cold (but not that cold to wear a coat), next it’s hot, what cover-up are you opting for to stay on-trend?

Inspiration and Key Knitwear trends for a/w 2012....detailed stitchwork, floats, manipulated stitching, contours, patchwork, jaquard, fairisle, cables, macrame, plaits, giant holes, ladders, pointelle, fur........ and this season some designers  show off these key trends. Forget baggy cardigans and sensible pullovers and check out the knits from this quartet of London based designers.

Fitted, sexy, luxurious, glamorous; not the usual words you'd use to describe knitwear but in the case of Mark Fast, Alice Palmer, Amy Hall and Alice Lee you'd be hard pushed not to agree. Marc Jacobs sent his girls down the runway in exaggerated shapes and cartoon-size accessories. Fuzzy sweaters, loopy crochet shawls and knubby tweeds at Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch lent a new twist to Park Avenue dressing — granny chic, indeed.

The emerging styles for this season, combined a minimalist, structured silhouette with woven leather, intricate embellishment and handcrafted details. Missoni side-stepped away from the house's zig-zag signature weave and experimented with swirling patterns in mohair and cashmere yarns. Margaret Howell's Fair Isle knits were worn with woollen pressed trousers and drummer boy felt pom-pom berets, while at Nicole Farhi, chartreuse felted wool skirts were paired with smooth charcoal blazers.

Mark Fast, renowned for his figure-hugging crochet knits, this season opted for a weightier graphic ribbed knit that took the shape of pencil skirts slashed to the thigh and cropped jumpers and cross motif jumpers have already been spotted on everyone from Alexa Chung to Daisy Lowe, and Burberry's owl motif knit showed the witty side of the heritage power-house. So this season, knitwear ranges from cashmere sweater dresses to knitted capes, this season’s collections feature styles perfect for casual layering.
